Yeah, I'm boiling.
I had a couple of hairy incidents tonight due to the ridiculous amount of snow falling and I saw two gritters out working this time.
Both were on the motorways!!
There were none working the side or main roads, the whole outside is like an Arctic or christmas card scene already, so what happened this time?
Lemme guess, the chant of "It took us by surprise" will be banded about even though they convened their MART response yesterday to monitor conditions.
AND it's been forecast for effin weeks with even the CITRAC motorway signage stating "heavy snow forecast Sunday Evening" for days.
I know it all has to be prioritised with major motorways taking a high position but FFS there should have been gritters and plows out for the last few days so when this crap came down it wouldn't have started lying just as quickly and more could have been done.
Add to that I slipped on black ice on the stairs leaving the house tonight so I now have a massive swelling and bruising to my lower back.

I take it you won't be voting SNP next time then?

I take it you won't be voting SNP next time then? It's due to the cutbacks being enforced by others that's causing the shouts of "lack of funds", but as I didn't and never have voted SNP then I doubt very much I will next time round.
Although saying that, as much as I don't like Salmond and crew, they have delivered on some of their promises already which is far more than I can say for certain other individuals or coalitions.

I have very bad bruising and swelling to my lower back area (imagine having the Lumbar support from your car glued to your lower back and you're about there), it's as painful as hell but I still went to work with it.
(Nothing to do with the fact it's nearly christmas and I can't afford time off sick Guv'nah, honest....)

Surely, Jimbo, a professional driver should have the correct equipment.
So go get yourself some winter tyres.
They'd go down as a business expense.

It's like trying to get blood from a stone getting the owner to pay for a bulb, if I got winter tyres fitted he'd have a coronary on the spot!
Anyway, I don't rate them that high, drop the tyre pressures a bit and obtain similar results.
(btw, the "hairy" incidents were due to snow on top of ice so can't see how any tyre can still grip a slippery surface like that)

Where is that snow chain thread gone?

No offence, but you're 100% wrong there.
Vastly different tread patterns, vastly different compounds.
You need to try some and see the difference, it really is night and day.
Many taxi boys up here are switching to winters this year.
The difference between them earning and not.

I still can't see though how any tyre, regardless of compound or tread pattern can grip on sheet ice (albeit with a covering of snow on top)
Then there's the cost, I'm guessing £400 minimum for 4 of them on 205/65/15's?
On actual taxi's (TX range) I'm not even sure they'd be available as they are specific sized commercial tyres but with "taxi" stamped on them... same size as Transit tyres but not interchangeable either way.
For the taxi it's a moot point as it's not mine and I'm not spending money on someone else's vehicle, on my own car(s) I would be tempted/interested if the price was right and I was doing enough mileage.
