I never really liked Star Trek or any of its iterations but I do like stuff like Terra Nova, Lost, Heroes etc. I also prefer shows which have a strong emphasis on an over-arching story instead of just "story of the week" stuff. Is BSG gonna appeal to me?
Missus and me quite enjoyed it, started to watch 1st season but stopped as too many other things on at same time and so forgot about it. We keep meaning to revisit it.
It's worth watching the pilot, then if you enjoy that stick with it, as the strnegth of that was what made us start to watch the series.
BSG is worth a watch, at times it over indulges in stupid religious symbolism and has too many filler episodes in some seasons, oh I found the Starbuck character very very irritating, but despite all that, yes worth a watch!

Is BSG gonna appeal to me?Yes. That's exactly what it's like. Strong story, effects and acting. Some of it gets a bit tedious, but on the whole it's one of the better series in recent memory and unlike most shows these days (that get cancelled after a season) it even had a proper ending. There's also a TV movie called The Plan that fills in some of the story, but don't watch that until you've seen the whole series.

Bought a lot of them on Dvd. Its one of those series where i always wanted to watch just another episode to see what happened next.
Pretty addictive stuff.
I watched the pilot on Sky when it first came out (which I very much liked). And then my Sky box went kaput and so missed several of the initial episodes before replacing it. I didn't want to 'jump in' in the middle of the series and so didn't watch it, intending to catch up at a later date. Several years later, I still haven't seen any more than the pilot episodes.

Both BSG & Caprica are well worth a watch.
Favorite bit for me is Galactica in Season 3.
SPOILER:
Jumping into the atmosphere above New Caprica burning up, launching Vipers & jumping back out at the last minute
My outlook on life is positive & carefree, I'm positive that I'm a pessimist & I don't care what what you think.
Never has so little had to be explained by me to so many so often.
