Play.com has been sold to Japanese company Rakuten, for 25m

I'm quite surprised the figure is that low!

Just shows how low the profit margins are for e-commerce, I suppose.

More likely the VAT free loophole is being closed\reduced so its a move to retire with ahefty sum for the board of directors.

My outlook on life is positive & carefree, I'm positive that I'm a pessimist & I don't care what what you think.

Never has so little had to be explained by me to so many so often.

It will be interesting to see where this goes from now, all the Jersey based warehouses must be massive employers on the island, and along with the jobs in the postal service this could be a massive blow if companies decide its pointless being based on the island if theres no financial benefit.

25 Mil seems a very low price but maybe Play.com realise things may be very tough in the future if they have to relocate or lose revenue due to the loss of the tax loophole and the inevitable higher prices. I remember when CDWow was my shop of choice but financial shenanegans lawsuits and the sale of the company turned it from one of the best online shops into possibly one of the worst, Ive not used them for years and their prices dont make them competetive anymore

Sendit.com recently changed their P&P from being free to now charging £1.99 per item, now £1.99 might not sound much, but add or 5 things to your basket and suddenly your faced with a £15 P&P charge ...Im sorry but Im not paying £15 to postage on 5 dvd's.....This could be a sign of things to come with online retailers, the increased costs have to be passed down to someone...and we all know who that someone will be!

I can see it just encouraging people back to shops, or use download services.

<koff> £9.95, would need to be £3 for the £15 Winking
But on that same point, I just bought that Crysis from the post in the Bargain forums... never use the PC for gaming so time to fire up the one I got from Ogs a while back n see if it has a high enough spec to run it... but at £2.99 delivered, even though it was £1.99 delivery it wasn't exactly expensive.

This is the result of things like higher fuel costs, closing VAT loopholes etc.

Next thing they'll be talking about a double-dip recession....
