Every time I apply Windows updates I have to untick IE9. Do. Not. Want.

Well the last time I did a IQ test I scored over 175, and I use Firefox religiously.

I like that some people are threatening legal action. Against What? All the company did was release the findings of a publicly available and free survey

I use IE because I don't like firefox and hubby uses google chrome.  If we use separate browsers, we can leave facebook, forums and hotmail all logged in without accidentally snooping in each others emails etc.

Yes, the findings make total sense. People with higher IQs have a greater understanding of their computers and therefore are more likely to download alternative browsers to improve the performance of the machine. People with lower IQs will accept the software that their machine comes with, and maybe won't even know that there are alternatives. They can't get the hump because the results of the test prove this!

I'm actually of the opinion that a large majority of people that know little to nothing about computers shoudn't own one. That might seem a sweeping statement but some of the worst infections and compromised systems have been on PCs that have owners that have asked me to 'take a look' because their system is running slow.

I normally have to spend at least 2 hours just wading through crap on my own as the Owner can offer NO INFORMATION WHATSOEVER about the system specs, browsing history, operating system, peripherals normally attached and when the last time they ran a chkdsk or defrag (That last question is normally met by a blank stare).

I can see why IE users would be upset by the findings. there's a difference between not knowing anything about computers and not having wordly knowledge. there's also the fact that some people might simply not have the time to **** about on a computer. I've had 10 years of evenings and weekends myself

I dunno, if ppl knew more about PC's I'd be out of a job, since most calls we get at work are password reset requests, and people not remembering that logging out and in/restarting PC will fix most of their problems

Similarly, I can drive my car, I can put petrol in it, change the light bulbs, fill the washer fluid, and that's about it, however I know how to call the breakdown company and a garage if it won't boot

I don't think there's any connection between IQ and knowing about something in particular.

(btw the only time I use IE is at work 'cos I have to, and for windows update at home, been Firefox user since day 1)

I appreciate that you have a job to do, but I'd personally get royally ****ed off with answering every problem with something I learned to do 10 years ago

Pete, the questions you were asking fairly recently when you got around to building your own PC would be considered by many to be very, very basic issues that they probably learned a good 10 years ago.  Thankfully they didn't 'get royally ****ed off with answering every problem' you had'
