Does a Car driving licence cover driving a 50cc scooter?

Hello,

This is me now about 9 months unemployed....first time ever in 22 years, i have a decent CV and with my time off i have passed my ECDL courses and a couple of SVQ2 courses in health and safety to pass the time but i just can't find a job.

I also help part time in my brothers PC repair shop  repairing PC's , PS3's and Xboxes but there is not much money to support two wages.

I have applied for dozens of jobs and have only had one interview where 150 people applied for, and only had a few e-mails saying i was being considered for the position i applied for.

I was a skilled machine setter and worked programming robots in my old work place but i don't even get a reply back from  even a low paid production job.

One of the problems may be that i have all these skills but no certificates to prove it, i learned all within my previous job workplaces or in my own time.

I think i need to look a bit further for a job now and was thinking of buying a scooter to get from A to B, i have a driving licence which i passed about 18 years ago but decided not to drive a few years ago because i have bad eyesight in one of my eyes and also double vision so have a huge blind side when driving a car.

Could i just pick up a 50CC scooter and drive out in it with my Car driving licence?

Thanks for reading.

Super Admin

Hmm I thought that if it did it was listed on your license, I know that mine lists a load of things I am allowed to drive (which these days no basic license allows), but it doesn't list a scooter.

It may count as a provisional license for one though.

I can't even read my licence now......it's the old paper one which has faded quite a bit, i read a while back that if the licence is the older one it covers you but can't be sure.

Taken from hereQuote:

If you obtained your full car licence before 1 February 2001 you are automatically entitled to ride a moped without L-plates (D-plates in Wales).
How is your eyesight now

I have mono vision with very good vision in my good eye and tolerable double vision, i can get about just fine but decided not to take a chance driving cars, also having mono vision i don't have much depth perception.

Thanks for the link.

I think you have to report your eyesight issues to DVLA as they may restrict your licence.

IMHO depth perception is need much more on two wheels as it can at times effect your balance.

CBT but not for a moped if you took your car test before Feb 2001
