Fishy feet in the mall

OK, a new phemonena is springing up in the middle of a shopping mall near you, all around Britain, and it looks completely stupid.

It is the fishy feet franchise, that has loads of daft women sitting around in plain sight dipping their feet in fish tanks Grinning

I mean is this genuine that the fish strip the old skin off your feet, or are they getting ripped off (pardon the pun) ?

At £1 a minute, it seems a rather expensive thing to do, dipping your feet and getting a nibble or a suck by the fish.

I was just thinking with my hard skin built up with years tramping around building sites, I would need pyranas with razor teeth to get the skin off mine Tongue

My friend came back off holiday from Spain recently and had photos to prove she'd had it done while over there. She swears blind that although it tickled slightly, the fish took all her hard skin off her feet, leaving them beautifully smooth and soft.

Personally I wouldn't try it if you paid me, but I do believe it works as I saw her feet afterwards!

They've been all over shopping centres and malls for months, but I was under the impression Trading Standards were looking into the possibility of transmittable infections and other hygiene concerns?

Certainly was mentioned a couple of months back but never heard of any outcomes.

I've never seen them in this country, but then I do live out in the sticks...

By the way, I first read the header as "Fishy feet in the MAIL" and wondered what you'd had in the post! lol

Just a fad

When we were in turkey you would stand in the sea or any lake and the fish would come up and nibble your feet

Just be warned, my little sister had this done and ended up with a nasty reaction.

I'm not aware of the full details (she may have told me, but I 'switch off' easily Winking)...something to do with the water not being treated properly...but she had to take anti-histamines and some other medicine for it to calm down (her feet and ankles were incredibly swollen for a few days).

I prefer fish fingers to fishy feet.

I thought they'd discovered the new royal had webbed feet.

Can anybody else see an Only Fools and Horses episode involving Piranhas.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was.
Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's 'it' seems weird and scary

I used to like fish fingers as a kid, but now I can't eat anything out of the sea without going "ewww yuck" Sad

Whilst I'm sure these little fish do eat all the dead skin they can get near, a few things spring instantly to mind:

  1. I can't see the fish being particularly well looked after (if that sort of thing bothers you)
  2. Ideal water for hygiene is not the same as ideal water for fish, one of us is going to be suffering
  3. Most fish are stupid and will overeat
  4. I doubt they do any better a job than you could if you soaked your feet in the bath and gave them a scrub the old fashioned way
