Just had my renewal in. Last year it was £260 for fully comp business with all the usual bits. Admittedly I had to make a claim last October for damage from a fire (not my car, but I was parked near a neighbour's car when it went up), but this year it's come in at £500! 35 years old, clean licence, over ten years protected no claims and insuring a 1 litre Yaris and the bastards want £500! I'm not even really using the car at the moment, but I need to insure it in case a job comes up. Even checking on confused I'm going to be looking at around £390 for the same cover I had last year. P***ed right off...

P***ed right off...Over 40, no claims in 15 years, full ncb on taxi, 2 years on private cars (due to screw up by insurance agent transferring my policies) and I got:
£700 on 1.8 T reg for focus Ghia x (no ncb so far)
£400 on 1.4 T Reg Rover 200 (2 years NCB)
£1100 on 04 plate 2.0 Zafira Diesel Private Hire (7 years NCB)
Managed to combine the Focus and Rover on an Admiral Multicar from September to January for an extra £115 so that makes:
Rover £400 plus £115 from September to January, Focus £700 til January, Zafira remained at £1050 expiring September and probably not renewing.
If I had managed £500 on mine I would have been over the moon... and now ya know why I need to sell one or two of my cars! lol

The wife's insurance was £169 full comp last year.
That was without business cover.
This year, they (Sheila's wheels) wanted £209.00
I got Sainsbury's insurance with business cover for £192.00, with £30 cashback from Topcashback.
So nett cost (£162) is cheaper than last year, with improved cover. 8)
You people need to shop around more and use cashback websites.
BTW, assuming the 3 points was an SP code, they shouldn't load your premium for that at all.
That's naughty, I know for a fact most insurers don't load for that.
I've done quotes with and without SP codes as experiments, and there's not one penny of a difference.

Youve been lucky Bowf, ive done the same and SP codes do load policies.
I also use cashback sites and still waiting for admiral to send theirs.
However relating to Bowf's point re:codes, when i was going through that court case for supposedly breaking the law at a pedestrian crossing i tested some quotes just to see how severe it would be if i lost.
The rovers quote of £400 went to nearly £780 and with my 3 for speeding removed it stayed above £740. I tested this again by making it 6 for two imaginary speeding (sp50s) and it still dropped to around £480/£490.
Removing my one and only sp50 (real) dropped it by a tenner.

I've had the same problem before, sadly if you make a claim regardless of fault they say you are statistically more likely to make another claim and therefore load your premium.
I haven't made another claim since the non fault claim I had.......4 bloody years ago!

Again, I've found this isn't the case.
My wife had a no-fault claim last year, all costs recovered from the guilty party.
When we got her Sheila's Wheels renewal, which had gone up by £40, I phoned and specifically asked if this was anything to do with that.
They catagorically stated no, the increase was just because of current market conditions.
I also did two quotes with Sainsburys.
One clicking "no accidents"
One clicking "no fault, all costs recovered" (then inserted the final claim figure)
It didn't make a penny difference to our premium.
I assume SP code is no fault of your own claim ?
I got hit by a 'hit and run' in a car park a few years back, when I was away from my parked car, and it required a new bumper and side wing claim, this affected my NCB even though it was not my fault, and it has taken two years, to get back to normal.
Anyway insurance has shot up recently, even if you have no convictions, or no previous claims, so you do have to shop around each year and change companies anually, to get the best price. I use confused.com and other comparison websites.
Funny how the first years policy price is reasonable, then the following year you have to pick yourself off the ground, as its way over the top, and change policies again.
Can anyone explain cashback sites to me, and give me the name of some. I have never heard of this.
