Why not be honest?

Super Admin

If our local one is any guide, I'm amazed it took this long! A DIY store that is the one you go to when you can't be arsed to go a bit further rather than because it's remotely any good is not a healthy sign.

There has not been one in Leicester in years. Homebase are where they used to be. Surely they have to be next. It's always empty when I go. Mind, we have a massive B&Q that seems to get most people.

Same scenario with Focus and B&Q here.
B&Q customers must outnumber Focus customers by dozens to one.

Focus was the best about 10 years ago, however it went downhill & in the Bournemouth area they all closed down some 3 years ago, at the time we were told they had gone bust, so was surprised when people post about bargains at Focus.

a shame really, as although their customer service is generally shockingly bad, their products are cheaper than the other DIY Giants...

however with the rise of Screwfix (aka B&Q), and Toolstation (aka Wickes)... i can see the days numbered of a lot of smaller branches... as price wise they cannot be beaten...

and example B&Q pack of 6 standard door hinges approx £10 - same product from Screwfix without the pretty retail packaging in pack of 20 was £6.

Having bought a new house Feb 10, and refurbed it throughout, i recken Screwfix and Toolstation have saved me about £2000 on materials!

I used a Focus when we first moved in here as I needed a couple of bits to fit the hot feed for our washing machine (damn these new flats designed for new fangled equipment) and it cost me nearly forty quid, the same bits in Wickes if I'd bothered to drive over would have cost me £14.

I didn't realise the price difference was so big until then, and the staff in focus werejust plain rude...wouldn't use it again even if they weren't going under.

Looks like Chris Dawson (CDS) aka The Range wants to buy the whole lot... wouldn't be a bad move he is a Plymouth business man, and i am sure he would make a going concern of some of the business... he bought up most of MFI when they went T1t$ up...
