Aargh NHS aargh!

So the optician found a patch (probably nothing) on my retina that they thought should be looked at. Gives me a letter to drop into my local health centre.

A week and a bit later, I have a letter from my health centre asking me to make an appointment with my GP, so he can book an appointment for me at an Eye Clinic.

So I have to trapes down to my GP, wasting both of our time, just so he can book me in somewhere completely different!!!!!!!!

This has put me in a bit of a bad mood, especially as there are only two appointments between now and next week. Why can't this be done over the phone????

just do it... my wife works in a optician and does testing etc... they can tell a lot about your health from what they can see in you eye... i know for a fact of three people who wouldn't be here now if she hadn't referred them!

The NHS are just bloody long winded about most things.
I had to stop running last September due to a knee problem and I'm still not through the whole process of sorting it. Appt at the end of the month and that will probably just be a 5 min 'yes you need it done' and book in after another 6 to 8 week wait.
It's the sort of problem that would be about 10 to 14 days if I was on £100,000 a week for Arsenal.

Good luck with it though, as Marks says they can tell more than you think from your eyes.
Like if they're set too close together

I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was.
Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's 'it' seems weird and scary

Or if they keep rolling around in their orbits because they've been focusing on marks' jiggly arsed gif

I don't know if your GP is the same, probably not, but I can only book an appointment on the day and all appointments can only be booked from 8AM or you have no chance.  It's really frustrating because generally with monor ailments I don't mind waiting a few days in order to get an appointment I'd like at a convenient time, but no, I can only phone on the day and take whatever they have left....

Same sort of thing happened to me. Suspected torn retina. Phoned up Eye Hospital and told me to go to GP. Went to GP and he said go straight to the A&E bit of the Eye Hospital.

So I rang yesterday, and got a rather unhelpful receptionist who was just, well unhelpful. Amongst the general air of unhelpfulness she said I could either ring up at 8:30 in the morning and maybe get one during the day, or there were just two appointments on Friday (neither of which I could easily make).

At which point I just said I'd ring tomorrow and spent a few hours being annoyed about the whole waste of resources. Cheered myself up later with a nice bath, and played Amnesia: The Dark Descent for a few hours scaring me nicely before bed.

Rang today about 11ish, got a much nicer receptionist, just asked for an appointment for any GP, got one today at 5:10, with... my own GP! Who I've actually never met despite him having been my GP for 10 years?

It's strange isn't it, my missus last few times she rang her doctor's she was told she could have an appointment in a week's time. Mine, different surgery, promise if you appointment same day or following day. Monday I tried from 8:30 till 10:00 couldn't get through, about 11ish I did and receptionist was really apologetic that she couldn't given me an appointment that day, but asked if it wasn't an emergency was Tuesday at 10:00 ok.

So, I went down there, got in to see the GP about 10-15 mins after my appointment time (which is apparently good), and walk out with...

a printout of some pages which allow me to book the appointment when I get home. So I went there just to get some paper, not even an appointment!

Stupid system, thanks Labour.

Tune in this time next year when I'll be saying... Stupid system, thanks Tories.

Dont blame Labour blame your crap GP practice, there has been a system in place now for years where a GP can book an out patient appointment with a patient during the GP appoinment or as in your case let you think about it and book from home.

This ringing on the day for an appointment is pants there is no need for it and its just bad management.

Just as bad as GPs using 0844 numbers grrrrr

Complain to your local PCT
