Hey chaps and lasses, unbeknown to me my late old fella had a rather nice TV when he passed it went into storage. Yesterday I went to pick it up and long one short I dripped arse over head on the boys toys and buggered it up.
Never claimed on insurance so how does it work?
Anyone help please....

Do they usually require a receipt, do they send someone out or do they need pics of damage or is it done 'in office' type thing?

How much is said TV worth? There's usually an excess of at least £50 when making claim on Home Contents insurance policy. You shouldn't need to bother with pics or receipt.

P.S. sorry u dropped it ![]()
Couple of things you may need to be aware of here. I am assuming from your post that the accident happened whilst at the storage compound. This could complicate things as you will need to decide whether it is your house insurance or the insurance you take out with the compound (presuming its a Storage Company you have used and not a lockup somewhere). I am guessing though that any insurance with a Storage Company is unlikely to cover you for accidental damage. You may wish to check on that though.
The second problem you may face is that your house insurance may not cover out of the house possessions such as this. Most policies do in all fairness but not all. They may be unwilling to cover it though as its not your possessions in storage, its your fathers. I would argue though that they are now your possessions through inheritance but they may come back to you and say that you should have a)informed them of the increases in possessions and b) advised them that a proportion of possessions was being kept away from your home.
The only other option would be to claim on your fathers insurance but I am guessing it will have lapsed by now.
Sorry to sound so negative but those are just a few things to be aware of. I would say providing you have answers for those things then you could claim. That will be just a case of calling up their claims line, advising whats happened and them sending you out the relevent paperwork. Depending on the size of the TV I would very much doubt its £1000 to replace unless its a 3D one or something. Some insurers have a policy of just paying out if less than, say, £500. If its more they may send an assessor round to have a gander who will decide if can be repaired or just to give you money/vouchers to buy a new one.
Hope that helps.
A couple of years ago I dropped my laptop - so had to claim through insurance...
(presuming of course under your house insurance you have accidental damge included?)
I made sure I read the small print first before speaking to them.
In this it stated that if it was the fault of a pet then it wouldn't be covered...if you were moving house in or out it wouldn't be covered...if the fault of a lodger or paying tenant wouldnt be covered...and a few other things I can't remember...
Eventually after going through the forms on the phone with them they arranged a courier to pick up the damaged laptop and they took it away to inspect it - basically just to see if it would be easier to repair or do new for old. In the end they send a new laptop with similar spec (they called first and asked if I wanted to stick with same brand etc)
If you don't mind telling a white lie then just say it was being moved around in the living room of your own house to save the hassle - and fingers crossed they will sort everything else, that's what you pay all those premiums for! And its not as if it wasnt an accident and the TV actually existed so I have no problem with it!
Keep us posted...
