In addition to the loss of the great Leslie Nielsen today, we've also suffered the loss at 87 of director Irvin Kershner - responsible for The Empire Strikes Back, Never Say Never Again, Eyes of Laura Mars, Robocop 2.  A former colleague of Roger Corman, his greatest success commercially was the follow-up to Star Wars.

Thank you, Kersh.

EDIT: Apparently great minds think alike.  Hallsey and I have posted almost simultaneously.

I think we can forgive him for Robocop 2, considering he made the best Star Wars film!

I'm no Star Wars fan but, like Rob said, The Empire Strikes Back is the best of the three.  However, I think is best film was Eyes of Laura Mars which is a terrific horror/thriller film and one well worth seeing.

Woke up this morning to read this in the newspaper...

Maurice Murphy obituary

Principal trumpet with the London Symphony orchestra, and played on the Star Wars soundtracks.

Apparently his sound was so distinctive that John Williams wrote his film scores around his sound. Also played on Superman and Raiders.
