General Forum - 3D Films - Am I missing something? - Page 1

I'm partially sighted in my right eye, but can still get the effect in certain scenes. As for 'out of the screen' effects, that's certainly been the case for some movies I've seen. Oddly the best examples I can name are Captain Eo (Michael Jackson movie played at Disney parks), and a Bob the Builder 4D movie at Legoland, where Luke actually moved back 4 rows because it looked as though a Girder was swinging into the auditiorium - and his eyes are buggered without his glasses!

Most movies so far tend not to have stuff flying out at you as if it went on for an entire movie as opposed to a 5 minute theme park ride then it would get a bit odd for most viewers.

Avatar was almost exclusively about the depth the only time I remember anything coming out at the audience were some leaves when he was flying.

Films like Avatar, Toy Story 3 etc are not about things coming out of the screen. The 3D is used to create depth into the screen. That said, I have yet to see a film where the 3D effect was remotely impressive or immersive. I saw Avatar on a full size IMAX and would rather have just seen the 2D version.

I havn't seen any of the new 3D movies, at the movies, but I have watched the 3D demonstrations in Curries etc. In those you get things behind & in front of the screen, but the gimmicky thinks thrown at you do nothing for me, however I watched a movie in the 50s at Kiddie club with the Green/Red glasses & this sailor was looking through a telescope towards the right of the screen, he then turned the teliscope towards the audience & everyone ducked..

If people want to do it in the cinema, slightly less embarrassing.
But still discriminatory towards spectacle wearers.

As long as they keep making 2D versions, I'll be happy.

Nope, Luke wears big thick glasses (milk bottle bottoms, poor bugger) and the 3D glasses are big enough to go over them while he's still wearing them

A child is one thing.
I can assure you wearing 3D glasses over adult glasses is extremely uncomfortable.
Practically impossible, in fact.
I could, of course, get prescription 3D glasses.
How much though?

Honestly, I usually let technology soldier on, I wish it luck and I adapt.
3D is the first technology I can think of that I hate with a passion and hope it dies.
