General Forum - Veggie meal puts me in hospital. - Page 1

Got home last night and sat down to dinner. It was a home made lentil curried soup type thing. As so as I had finished eating it the roof of my mouth started itching, then my skin. Within 10 minutes I had lumps the size of half Smarties over the top half of my body and face.
Then my throat started to go. Breathing was fine, but it got to the point that I could not swallow and was finding hard to talk. Called NHS Direct and they got a doctor to phone me back. He packed me off to hospital where they had me on a bed in an instant. Was given some steroids and anti-histemiens (sp).
This started around 20:30 and I was on my way home at 3:00
Anaphylactic Generic apparently.
Big thanks to the LRI. (first time for everything) They could not have been better.
Now just to have more tests to find out what gives.
I have to wonder, would this have happened if I had had unhealthy pig, or cow for tea?

Whatever it was at least you are better now. Was there peanut or peanut oil in the meal?

Glad you're ok, Doc. Obviously being a Dr got you professional courtesy and a bed nice and quick.
Did you look like Lister in Red Dwarf when he had space mumps?

Don't think there was peanut oil in there as it was made from scratch. Different lentils that usual though. Looking through my vast array of medical books I obviously have it looks like the lentil and the peanut are part of the same family. Bugger.
Will see what the tests say when they do them.
Thanks both. All ok now. Throat is a bit sore and my eyes are still a bit puffy.
