Sky`s Annual Increase

Just had an email from Sky. Now I have a Sky+ box, but only subscribe to the basic Entertainment packagage, which is currently £23 a month.

In the email, it explains that because they have upgraded the serice so amazingly, they're putting it up by £3 a month from September.

So then they list the extra things they've introduced to make this new monthly fee of £26 worth every penny...

1) More sports - um, I don't have the sports BECAUSE THEY COST MORE!

2) Sky 3D - um, I won't be getting that because it's only on the Sky HD boxes, which I don't have.

3) Sky Anytime+ - um, I won't be getting that because you have to have Sky HD (WHICH COSTS MORE) and Sky Broadband to get this new feature!

4) Sky has the biggest range of HD channels of any digital TV service - er, I don't have HD - DER!

5) Sky Broadband now has 20MB download speeds in certain areas - I'm not on it, I don't have it, and I don't bloody want it.

So why has my subscription jumped £3 or 13% in one bloody go???

Surely the extra costs should be lumped onto the Sky Sports, Movies, HD and Broadband subscriptions, not the base subscription that us paupers have to accept.

Can you not ditch Sky and switch to Freeview?

Or is there something you watch on Sky

Just the way Sky are, if yoiu have been with them over 12 months call up and say its too expensive you want to cancel and hopefully you'll get a few months half price which will offset the increase.

This may take a few tries as they are cottoning onto it more, if you live a virgin area too it will help.

Yes, we watch a lot of channels within the £23 subscription package - that's why we have it. We'd love movies and sport too but we can't afford them. I currently have the movies added for 50% of the normal extra price, just for 3 months, as a real family treat during the summer holiday.  I have marked on the calendar the day that I need to phone up and cancel again though, to avoid it going back to full price.

I've been with Sky, on and off, at various addresses since they launched in 1989, when they had just one satellite broadcasting 16 channels. I remember the days. But loyalty doesn't seem to count for diddly squat with them. There is no Virgin here, nor will there ever be, We're too far out in the sticks. So I can't wave that stick at them.

What I want to know is - how much are the premium packages going up by? Surely it's more than 13% if they're dumping that increase on us poor bastards who aren't getting any of the extra benefits they say it is to pay for?

I can't get accurate info about what my package will increase to.
I'm currently £68.50 a month.
That's all the packages + HD + multiroom.

I'm looking into getting a Dreambox or similar. It would seem that the Sky's the limit.

It's an ancient console made by Sega, but quite frankly, I'd rather play Sonic the Hedgehog again than shell out for $ky!

Not being picky but the console was a dreamcast, not a dreambox
