iTunes problem...

got an album via itunes (bought directly on the iphone, then transfered to netbook)  problem is, i sold the netook & have since had to restore the phone & set it up on my mac mini for syncing etc (running XP)

heres the problem,  when i go to the album to re download it, it tells me i allready bought the album, & do i want to BUY it again......   so i'm assuming it's gonna charge me the full price again ? i had been assuming it would be the same as items bought via the App store,  if you need to download it again, you don't get charged if you need to re-download it again..

i can find the download in my history in itunes store, but no link to re download Confused  doas anyone know if i can retrieve it "legaly"   obviously i can ust go download it from the "usual" places, but i bought the damned thing,  so why should i Confused

i should also mention, the mac is "authorised" & connected to the correct itunes account.

I think you're at Apple's mercy with this one.

support.apple.com/kb/HT1469

I've read some stories of people sending Apple emails and them permitting a re-download (but only once).

Doesn't help much, but the moral of the story, make backups, make backups, make backups!

i normaly do,,,  it was just because i sold my netbook in a hurry, & didn't back up my purchased content, on the assumption i could download it again, the same way i do with App's etc Confused

seems daft,  as the pro's & cons of digital media,  the con's being no "hardcopy" but the pro's being it could be easily replaced etc Confused  obviously not the case,  don't think i'll be buying any media content from apple store again,  it seems pointless putting up with the copywright protection, & not being able to re-download it back into the same "protected & authorised" account just boggles my mind Confused   they wonder why we use torrent sites !!!!

I haven't bought any media content from them for a long long time.
I don't like the DRM restrictions and I didn't like the 128kbps bit rate they used for so long, so was more than happy when Amazon, Play & Tesco etc. started selling songs in MP3 format (at rates above 192kbps - generally 320kbps).

For Apps we're obviously tied to them, but they allow those to be re-downloaded anyway.

EDIT: Forgot to ask what the album was! Grinning

tbh, i normaly get my music either from ripping old cd's, or "the usual sources"  but there where about 5 of the "101" compilations i wanted, & would have bought them just to avoid cataloging/sorting them myself,  but i guess apple didn't want my £60..  never mind, their loss Winking

the album was Sandi Thom's Greatest hit's...  & i allready re-aquired it, in lossles Flac, & am halfway through converting it to mp3 for the iphone..

Report it to Apple through iTunes. I've done I before and to be honest they were brilliant. Even emailed the following day to check if everything was still ok.
