ITV is crap isn't it?  Having said that I'm watching it on Freeview HD ITV and it's ace. Grinning

TBH, apart from the fact that at distance you can't identify a player's face (which would be the same on a CRT telly) I can't complain about my freeview reception on the games.
Just watched most of the Brazil game and it was fine here, obviously HD would be much better but I was happy with the picture and I can be really picky.

Saying that, the replay footage when they were analysing a bit was pretty blocky, but the ongoing match was fine.

Funnily enough, I switched over after the post and looked at the SD coverage and it didn't seem anywhere near as bad as it can be - I thought the England game was a particularly poor picture.

I commented on this when the Mrs was watching England's opening game. On V+ the quality of the SD coverage was shocking. Loads of pixelation and mosquito noise around the players - almost unwatchable. Unfortunately the ITV HD coverage wasn't much better. The compression wasn't quite as bad, but it was nowhere near the quality I'd expect from an HD broadcast.

By contrast, the BBC HD game I watched last night looked great. Obviously not BD quality, but very good for broadcast. I have to assume one of two things: either ITV are getting their feed from a crap source in South Africa, or the quality of ITV HD as a whole is rubbish. Having seen some fo the other content I'm leaning towards the latter.

Hmm that's strange.

I know that normal ITV is generally really bad for normal football and was explained off as it's so bad due to the compression for the amount of ITV channels there are.

ITV HD is good for the champions league usually though. Unfortunately I've been unable to watch most of the games so far, as had exams yesterday and today (although I've had to miss them as my back is knackered Sad that's £240 odd plus loads of revision down the drain).

Saying that I've been lucky, the 3games I've seen were England v Usa, Germany v Australia, France v Uruguay. At least I got two of the better so games so far apparently Happy

Having watched the footie in HD the only benefit I see is that the advertising boards around the pitch seem to stand out more

I've been really unimpressed so far. Looks like upscaled content not real HD material. Best test is to go and stand really close to the screen. BBC looks very sharp and detailed, ITV looks all smudgy...

Whose knocking CRT's, mine looks fine normal SD. The most annoying thing about ITV is Adrian 'idiot' Chiles. God he is so clueless about anything it is unreal.

also did anyone see the BBC MOTD last night loved the NK sketch they did.

No one. I was making the comparison saying if you watched on my Panny on ITV SD it was easily comparable to the quality of a CRT set.
Ie: It was fine. Remembering that it's a 50" in a small room too.
No doubt HD would have been better but I notice one post mentions V+ box ITV, are the others using Sky or Virgin boxes that are receiving low quality?
I'm using the inbuilt Freeview tuner not my Sky box and it's absolutely fine.

Of course, at the risk of kicking everything off again, I'm sure the fact it's a plasma has something to do with it as well <ducks>
