British courts System, what a joke!

Not referring to my recent personal case, but this one was way before that.
Early last year I'm sitting in the car waiting on my next job.
Guy comes out of a local casino and walks up the street, past my car.
some arsehole yob decides to go for the said guy for no reason whatsoever and starts fighting.
In the process, bounces off my car and causes the ONLY two dents in the entire car, one on each driver's side doors.

The guy attacked calls the Police who attend reasonably quickly. They even knew who it was before they went to get him. Also in the process they add in a £500 compensation order for the damage to the car which they could clearly see.

Months later, three appearances to court later and the arse pleads guilty.
This is then put off AGAIN for some other f**king report or other til December last year.

Still wondering what's happening as there's nothing come through, I ring today. Didn't realise how much time had passed and was told that the case was disposed of on the 18th December last year.
No compensation order, no other details, no comments about what happened.
I didn't hear anything because.... there was no compensation order.

I *know* the order was in the original paperwork and when I called last year (October I think) and was told it was back to December I was told it was there on the paperwork.

End result?
This little f**k is still walking the streets, probably got a ****e fine or community service/order and I need to fix my ****ing car myself! Angry

And they wonder why we don't bother to report anything?

It's just like when you watch Cops on Camera. You get 10 cops with battering rams/dogs etc, they raid a house, find loads of drugs and then at the end it says the occupant got a 12 month discharge and had to pay £100 costs. Really? is that all it costs for 10 policeman and god knows how much time/paperwork?

the other week i saw a cops on camera and they pinched two kids in a car with drugs, knives, a starting pistol and two replica guns

"the two youths received a caution"

nice work! I got a f***ing caution for being caught by a sniffer dog with about a tenners worth of weed.

At least your option would have given me something back Whoot instead of 3 days of lost earnings for court appearances that I sat there for 3 hours a time and got told to go home.
I got £50 per day for that, not bad for 3 hours you'd say... but they were morning appearances and I lost most of a night shift through it.

Oh yeah, and I *still* have to fix the dents!

PS: No, I'm not seriously saying I should have killed him or set him on fire!

You could pursue a civil action, or small claims court action against the person, but there is no guarantee that will do anything than cost you more money. Confused

That was a part of the conversation I had with the woman on the phone Mr S.
Her answer was to simply continue to revolve the "You can sue him" to my "But to initiate a proceeding in a small claims court will cost me both the initiating cost and the cost of a lawyer to make the case, and then I can lose that too"
"Yes, but you can sue him"

Continue  until I gave up.

I expect the case involving your car got taken into consideration and he was done for something more serious.

That happened to us a few years back.

Some smackhead steals my hubby's van from outside our house, and when it finally turns up (found by a neighbour, not the police, I might add), he has had £1500 worth of tools out of the back. The police had the van taken to their pound, and we had to pay to retrieve it after about 4 days (around £250 I think from memory), so our total compensation claim was around the £1750 mark.

It eventually got taken into consideration, along with about 20 other crimes, and he got sent down for armed robbery or something.

No compensation at all. Nice. Angry

I've said it before and I'll say it again - our so called justice system is stacked far too heavily on the side of the criminal. Us poor sods who mainly stick to the letter of the law get screwed every time.

Not sure if it can be done, but sure it should be done, if you are found guilty of ANYTHING you should have to pay the wages for the police time they use on your case, everything time to arrest you, book you, paperwork and court appearances.....if easier round it upto complete days. Helps police costs and gives them a punishment they will feel rather than stupid asbos, cautions etc etc Sad
