Sod em give em some meat balls and say its that plastic corn s***e or whatever it is!
Good idea, apparently you cant tell the difference anyway.
Let's go over the famous incident, shall we?
I recall some builders staying at your B+B, or visiting it for a meal.
They ordered some Lasagne.
It wasn;t pointed out to them it was veggie, they were expecting meat.
You gave them vegetarian lasagne, sneakily.
You then got all excited when they 'didn't notice' and said something along the lines of it being the best they'd ever tasted blablabla.
Can you point out where I've got that wrong?
They were not expecting meat, neither did they 'order it'.
I didn't get 'exited' when they commented on it. Based on experience it was the norm.
I did however sneakily give them some meat dishes.
They were from Rotheram & one was a West Ham supporter. They said it was the best Lasagne they ever had & asked for the recipe so their wives/girlfriends could cook it.
I take pride in my cooking & once had 3 Americans who had been traveling around the UK stop by. I have specialised in Mexican cooking in the past & they said it was the best meal they had since they came to the UK, it was however a meat one. I could have done the same without meat & got the same response.
lol, been a while since we had a veggie vs non-veggie debate.
My missus is veggie, because she doesn't like the taste of meat, so substituion isn't always the best idea.
I'm not veggie, but we generally eat the same meals together, and I find the best meals are the ones not trying to be meat.
For example I really like squash risotto. There's loads of recipes for it on the internet, it takes a little while to prepare and cook (unlees you buy a pre cut squash, they can be fiddly).
But something like that you co do as the side dish to get with some meat, and give the vegetarian a larger helping of that, or givem that that with a nut cutlet, veggie burger, something similar.
if you're doing a lasgne/bolognase/chille you could use quorn mince and give it to everyone. Soya mince is ok, but doesn't have anywhere near the same body/texture as meat, so is obvious it's not meat, quorn is closer.
Quorn chunks in Indian or Chinese sauce are fine to.
I'm never going to win serving up a vege burger! Well, thanks for the suggestions, I think in between the Meat vs Vege argument there was 1 or 2 ideas! ![]()
The vege thing is going to be a pain in the arse though. I struggle to make myself a basic meal never mind a a 3 course meal for 6 with a variant one of the mains! I might see about inviting another couple, that'll make things much easier!
I loved bowfer's mixed grill comment - I might draft up a fake menu with Italian Meats as a starter, mixed grill for the main and Orange Fanta as a desert (it's her favourite from McD's but Vege's can't have it).

Please, you were doing so well.
Please don't patronise me, Paull, it does you no favours and only seeks to highlight your choice for agitation tactics.

No one in over 20 years has even come close to thinking a veggy meal I did for them was veggy. If it's cooked properly, no one would tell.
If someone cannot taste the difference between a lasagne that contains meat and one which doesn't then they have not tasted a decent meat based lasagne.

I would happily cook a veggy meal for anyone but if you knew in advance it would be pointless.Yes, but we could try it and see what we think of it. Or is there some reason you don't want to pass on the recipe? Family secret like KFC's magic coating?

Any meals I cook bare no resemblance to some of the rubbish you get in supermarket that even I would not eat. Good, I am happy for you. Most home cooked meals taste better than most supermarket ones. The trade off is convenience v quality at times. A lot of us don't have the luxury of unlimited time to home cook every day.

Could someone please
Remove these cutleries
From my knees...
Wow nice thread,
if you actually want help with a recipie I am happy to help. I am not vegetarian but the rest of my family is so 80% of my meals are veggie.
You can go for mexican which is easy to make for meat and veggies, a possible recipie is either nachos, which are best without meat you can make the topping yourself including the guac, or a tortilla soup with beans and cheese etc. For mains you can make fajitas where you just cook the meat in second pan and don't mix with all the veggies. For dessert depending on how brave you are deep fried chimichangs with nuttella and banana served with ice cream are great.
The only difficulty is in washing up an extra pan as far as I can tell.
Also cooking veggie meals actually makes you think a little bit more about the flavours and textures as opposed to lumping in a bit of meat.
If you are so against cooking for the veggie person simply do not invite her, what is the point of asking someone round then serving something that you would not like to eat, not saying you are going to do this, but just the general point of view from a lot of people in the thread. If you wanted to you could just say, hey your an inconvienence so unless you bring your own meal don't bother coming.

They were not expecting meat
Yes they were, Paull.
Anyone who is offered Lasagne, or sees it on a menu, expects it to contain meat unless otherwise advised.
