3D TV

Apparently 3D TV is going to be the saviour of the industry.

What do you lot think?
Personally I disagree. Until 3D is possible in some way without glasses it will remain a niche market. In another report somewhere it suggested that glasses were 75 quid a set. Even if they were £10 a set I don't think it would take off.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was.
Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's 'it' seems weird and scary

Totally agree. There's a gadget report on Sky Anytime at the moment from this year's CES, and they are saying that if you wear prescription glasses, you need a special prescription pair of 3D glasses made to watch 3D TV. F*** off! I don't think that'll catch on at all!!!! Shocked

Apparently LG are working on a 3D TV that doesn't need glasses, but the picture is fuzzy still. Could be good in another 5 years or so, so I think that technology will do better than the type that needs glasses.

Well I will stick with my big CRT until something better comes along and it hasn't yet.

I looked into the old 3D a year or so back (not the very old red/gree or blue) & the glasses were about £70-00 ish & could be used on a normal TV. It seems these new ones can be very cheap. They are basically a vertical polorised glass in one eye & a horizontal in the other. If you look through a polorized pair of glasses & put another in front of those, then turn them virtical they become black & can't be seen through. So these new projectors project a horizontal polorized frame first, then a split second later a vertical polorized frame. The left eye see's only the horizontal, the right eye see's only the virtical or vice verse). The new TVs have to scan much faster to do this, that is why they are different to the ones we have now.

I think I've given the basics & could be wrong, but thats the principal. Feel free to correct.

If it wasn't for the huge difference in quality between a CRT and an HD LCD TV when playing on the PS3 I'd be inclined to agree.

My 32" Thomson CRT still looks good with an SD source. Shame it takes up half of the room it's in...

So nothing has come along that's better than your big CRT? LOL.
3D will be be quite prominent this year and get bigger and bigger.....
It will be interesting to see how it's marketed - esp to people who have only just bought into HD in the last year or so...

Nothing's more 3D than a big CRT!

It's pretty ironic that these newfangled 3D TVs will be flat panels... Tongue

The PS3 is also going to be doing 3D stuff in the (near) future. Not sure if that's on a normal TV or a special 3D one.

Yes, the PS3 will have a firmware upgrade to enable it. But it's not the same as a 3D TV.
One interesting thing I've heard is that a lot (most/all?) of current AV amps (pictures go through them too) won't be able to 'do' 3D and will either need upgrading or taken out of the loop and straight to the TV..
Think this TV is a thing of beauty - and how cool is that remote for the 9000 series....
