Shedding pounds

Any fellow losers out there, weight losers that is.
A question occurred to me whilst hoofing it round the local park just now.

How much does a calorie weigh?
All the gym machines these days tell you how many calories your burning and all the grub is labeled with how many your putting back in.
So is there a direct correlation?

Two stone since last February if anyones bothered and fitter than I've been in fifteen years.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was.
Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's 'it' seems weird and scary

Sorry most of them are now either dusters or have been sweated into at the gym.
I'm definitely not one of your gym poseurs.
Scabby old trainers and baggy T shirts are just about my mark

A calorie is a unit of energy so it doesn't exactly correlate to weight. It's the amount of energy given off when a substance is burnt - which is how they calculate it in a lab. However, 1lb of body fat is equal to 3500 cals if you want to put it like that. Of course, when you are burning up energy, you aren't necessarily burning fat. And here it gets very complicated...

Good work fella, well done.

If you, or anyone else is interested, in WHSMITH I saw 2 special editions of men's fitness mags.

men's Fitness - Complete Guide to Home Workouts 9.99
has lots of workouts with and without dumbells and barbells

Men's Health - Fitness Special 2009 Edition 9.99 but comes with a DVD of 4 15minute routines.

they're with the magazines, rather than the books.

When I wanted to lose weight for my visa medical, I cut my weekday lunch meals out & replaced them with a fruit smoothie & went swimming 3 nights a week.

The week before the medical I was doing some roofing repairs to the house which also helped.

I managed to get within a few pounds of my target weight doing that (short notice medical in 3 weeks) & didn't cut out my evening beer either.

Though I didn't get anywhere near my target weight for the 2008 weight loss thread.

Since my arrival here I have come down from just under 13 stone to 11 stone 5, the p***er of it is that I got rid of all my 32" jeans & the 34" ones are a tad baggy now.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you’ve noticed.) You don’t normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

Lost 4 stone since May Shocked - first of all thought I had a terminal disease until I found out the wife had put me on Weight Watchers!
Now want to lose another 3 and that'll do me.

Take a look at www.gymjunkies.com

I am using the strength program to build up and have put a stone of muscle on since May, but they also have weight loss programs and dietary advice too.

Really good site.
