What are the spoilers in that?
But for some spoilers... remind me what happened in the last series...
I remember the bit from the clip above with Juliette at the bottom of the pit but waht was it again the Losties were trying to do? Was it blow something up with some nuclear device?

They were following Daniel Faraday's theory that if they neutralised the electromagnetic anomaly caused by "the incident" with the warhead from the Jughead bomb, the hatch (Swan station) would never be built and the system failure that caused the plane to crash would never happen.

It has been rumoured heavily, and now seems pretty clear, that instead of flash backs or flash forwards, there will be flash alts instead, showing what would have happened had the plane never crashed.

Aye, that bit confused me as well, but I have a theory.

SPOILER:
If the islands sunk after the , then Des would never be shipwrecked on it, therefore I expect him & a whole lot of others who weren't originally on O815, are going to be woven into the sideways flashes.

THO discovered that she hadn't watched the episodes sourced for her from the the time we left the old house, when I flew out here initially & she moved in with friends & was therefore conusd within 30 secs of watching the "Previously on Los....." opening.
