Tricity Bendix Strata oven not reaching temp?

Annie's going through random cravings. Tonight's special was sausage rolls. So we popped the oven on, and chucked them in. I was already in bad books because I forgot the crumpets (don't ask) so the slow speed the rolls were cooking weren't doing her mood any better.

Ended up using the top oven, but the lower oven (main fan oven) seems to be warming slightly. I can put my hand in and it's just just over warm, but the little light indicating the temp has been reached seems to be going out as it would if it was working properly.

What I want to know is, is this a faulty element, or thermostat? I'm adept at fixing home appliances, but as the Thermo and element are £30 each I don't want to shell out on the wrong bit.

Another possibility might be a safety thermostat that is faulty. When we had an oven which would not heat up properly it turned out to be a safety thermostat which was fixed to the outside of the oven's back panel.

If you bridge that and the oven works, then you know what the problem is, just don't leave it unattended!

We had the same problem, oven not getting hot enough, after speaking to local parts shop I replaced the internal thermostat and it solved the problem.

Their advice was, if the element is faulty it (normally) just doesn't work, so if there is no heat it's likely to be the element.

If it is not heating enough then it is most likely the thermostat.

Took me about half an hour to replace, again the part shop showed me how to do it, they had an exploded haynes style picture on their computer showing where all of the parts are located which they very kindly printed out.

Edit - Just noticed yours is a tricity oven, ours was a hotpoint which I have been told are pretty much the same. There was a panel on top of the oven that revealed the themostat cable and where is connects up. The replacement stat was about half the length of the original, the part shop said to put it as far into the oven as it would go so in effect the tip of both stats were in the centre of the oven (on the left hand side as you look in)

All the best

Gerald.

Our oven in the last house got only slightly warm and it was the element. Worth trying that first as they are not that expensive and easy to swap out.

If you're in the Sheffield area I know a really helpful shop.

Just had a test run, turned the oven on and while the fan is spinning, there;s simply no heat at all. i'm gonna have to say it's the element, methinks

All fixed. Tooke the back panel off the inside of the oven to reveal the element. Big nasty bubbly blown bit at the top. Ordered another one from espares (got the replacement dishwasher spares from them too). Arrived this morning and was replaced in 10 minutes (3 screws and 2 spade connectors). all for the princely sum of £20 and cuppa

How much would that have cost me if I'd got an 'engineer' out?

Wild guess...fifty quid call out, hour's labour, eighty quid for the part.

It might not have taken two weeks though.
