w***ers.. makes me mad.

this is what I would do.

a) get a baseball bat
b) bang a nail through the fat end
c) stake out the shed for the rest of my life

What sort of anti-theft deterrents did you have?
Alarm on the shed?
Bike locks?
Ground anchors?
I live in a very safe/quiet area, but I've still got the garage done up like Fort Knox.
It's hooked up to the house alarm, I have a small extra battery alarm on the rear door, the bike is alarmed and fitted with locks etc.
Doesn't make me immune (don't think anything does), but I'll bloody know about it if someone tries to break in.

I sometimes wish some c*** would have a go.
Partly because it would give me an excuse to use the mini-baseball bit I have in the house, partly because I want an excuse to run down the street in my pants.

Know exactly how you feel Splint.
Few years back mine was done, all the tools I had gone (about 300 quids worth at the time.)
Most of which had been handed down from my Dad etc so couldn't be replaced and had no idea just exactly what was missing until each time you try to do a job and there's no tool for it.

I have the alarm and a good lock, if they want in they manage it. Boils me even more that if you DO get them caught they'll get minimal scheitte sentences for it.

Oh, and house insurance in my case managed to wriggle out of covering it because it was a non permanent structure or something. Hopefully yours will still be covered.

Sorry but I don't think house alarms are worth the batteries you put in them.
Unless your up to Redcare levels and linked to the plod shop they're worthless noise makers.
When have you ever seen any kind of police response to a house alarm?

Best to spend the money on bolts and bars always assuming you don't mind living in Alcatraz.

Mine runs off the mains, with battery back-up for someone cutting the mains.
Insurance companies disagree with you.
My house alarm isn't linked to the police, I still get a discount.
I know what you're getting at, that (certainly car) alarms are ignored these days, but I don't necessarily think that applies to home alarms.
Firstly, my house alarm will alert me to burglars at night.
Secondly, my neighbours are guaranteed to investigate an alarm going off, as I have when my neighbours went off one night.

They don't have super hearing you know.
They don't hear it but choose to ignore it.
They will investigate if a concerned neighbour phones them.
Again, I have first hand experience of it.

I know of plenty of people who use baby monitors.
One in the garage, one in the bedroom.
Even quiet burglars make sounds you wouldn't normally hear in a garage, so they do work.
Cheap too.
