romantic break for 2 - can anyone help??

it will be our 8 year anniversary in june and we are looking at spending a couple of days in a hotel in may. preferably in the midlands area as we live in birmingham but i do have a car to travel. i want a lovely romantic place as we dont really do romantic stuff and have had a look round but places are either way over priced (we have bout £150 maybe bit more to spend) or just dont seem very romantic.has anyone stayed at a hotel that was lovely and romantic or even just somewhere that was really nice?any help would be great Happy
found a lovely one in cornwall VERY romantic but £185 for ONE nights and would take us over 4 hours to get there lol i want romance but not that bad lol

Nice place, lots to do..
I went with a bird once and we stayed in a travelodge right in town.. it was pretty nice, and can't have been that much, as I am a tight wad...

also, down nr glos, oxford, that sort of way? is that close enough for you?

You could try here. I can recommend it as i am slightly biased as I used to work there.

Alternatively, you could try here also. The ex GM is a friend of mine so I can again recommend it.

I treated my missus to a couple of night's in the McDonald Hotel in Bowness , Lake District back in 2003. It was our first valentines day as a couple so made it special. It's a lovely 5 star hotel but did cost a bit.... 2 nights cost us £150....and it was 6 years ago so have no idea how much it costs now!

The Lake District is a fantastic place for romantic walks. Tongue

may i suggest you sign up for the emails at www.travelzoo.com

register and keep checking their top 20...if you see somet you like BOOK IT FAST because travelzoo is really popular and everything sells as out as soon as the email is sent out...

I can guarantee you'll find a bargain on there if you wait a little... Winking
