I was talking to a mate (a real one) about docs fight story and I described the doc as "a mate" I then went on to explain that he wasn't a person I know, but a person an a forum. Its hard to talk about people on here without saying "my mate........"

So what do you call forum friends without sounding like a complete geek? I dont want to start a conversation with "A mate of mine on the internet....."

We had a little discussion about it and the best I could come up with was e-buddy. Acquaintance just seemed to personal. So what would you call us.

We all know what whoot would say lol so lets keep it clean hey? Winking

I dunno. I frequently find myself talking about "someone I know on the internet" and it always gets strange looks!

Which is a pity, because ( know some brilliant people through forums, that I could never hope to meet in real life. But there isn't a satisfactory word for it, is there?

"Someone I know off the Internet"... usually followed by "he/she's not a weirdo"

Someone on a forum I visit, unless I know the person well enough to be on first name terms.

I just say "a bloke I know"
It saves the 'looks' you would get, saying you were on an internet forum, chatting to someone you've never met. Confused
