Checking my account I saw that there were numerous payment that I could not remember. Mainly in online betting shop (in Leeds and Gibraltar), and some other ones like congestion charges in London etc - they took a total of over £1,100. I called my bank immediately and they cancelled my card and they said that the fraud team will investigate.
Has anyone had this happened to them. The woman said they depending on the result of the investigation, i will get re-imburse. Bloody bast*&^ds

Have you used your card in a restaurant, Garage, shop etc recently. Or taken money out of an ATM. There's lot's more, internet perhaps?

Hi Paul, yes Internet definitely, I bought a few things over the years. Garages and shop too of course. At the ATM machine, I am always careful. I don't think that it is about my pin code but more that they have all my other details. I am usually pretty good at security, but just proof that you can't be safe enough

I watched Watchdog the other week, and they were saying that chip and pin is no longer safe, and they proved it by doing a test, where they had the victim think he spent a fiver, by using a hacked in to chip and pin machine, and the thieving bastard next door spent £50 using a fake card, and it all goes on your account.

The best thing is, the bank won't reimburse you, because they think that A) you're lying and you're trying to rob them, or B) claim that it's your fault because you were careless.

Hi floyd, what is the definition of being careless. Like I have said I have bought several things from the net (DVDs, memory card etc.) and always use well known companies. Surely nobody can't help if someone inside a company pass on the details of somebody's cards.

Mostly Harmless

Bad luck Jean - I had a card stolen in Barcelona - it was cancelled straight away and a new card issued but two months later transactions started appearing on my account from spain and france - it turned out that toll machines on motorways were the culprit - the thieves were using the old card in machines that did not check the validity of the card. Got the money back from Barclaycard in the end though so hopefully you'll be OK.

It happened to me via the Internet. I informed Visa. Card cancelled and so was the amount due. Then I just had to fill in an investigation form and that was the end of the matter. I owed nothing.
Good luck.

I have been told to report the crime to the police as it can help for getting back my money. Also I was thinking I can see on my statement that the card has been used to pay for the congestion charges in London, would the transaction be linked with a specific vehicle, surely the police could trace the vehicle (and if not stolen, but why would they bother to pay the CC), they could get to someone no?

Oh great! Just got an 'Ultimate' account from Halifax this week and received my Visa card this morning. I was previously with HSBC but got totally fed up with their faceless bad customer service but that's another story!? I did have a Switch card and have not had any problems with it with regards to my account being pilfered or anything sinister like that.

If I treat my newly acquired Visa card the same way as I did with my Switch card will I be ok or is it just down to bad luck....?? Confused

I think that it is just sod law. I am pretty paranoid about security, i keep my pC updated with anti-virus and anti-malware, I have been shredding my correspondance for the past few years, try not to buy stuff online from dodgy website. But how can you vouch for the guy on the other side of the line. When you have for example people that sell database list of customers from call center for money...
