Al Murray tells jokes about foreigners etc does that make him another Jim Davidson?
On the few J.D. videos I have seen I have actually found him quite funny, I do not recall any jokes which I thought were bordering on being racist etc.
He picks on a few crowd members in the front rows - and I did remember thinking that one (but only one) of the lines he did about someone was a touch near the bone.
I;m merely talking from the POV of how I perceive him as a comedian, based on what ive seen from these videos, and I dont have a problem with him in that sense
Maybe i'll go home and watch them again at some point just to see whether Ive missed something

no where near on the same level, i've seen a few interviews with him and he seems to be a very nice guy, the pub landlord stuff is all a character
i'm sure he wouldn't want disabled people 'moved' into the aisles like pieces of furniture
anyway, mr davidson has been served up a nice dollop of karma, nice one god (even if u did take your sweet f***ing time with this arsehole!

I dont mind Jim Davidson. I dont even mind Manning or any of that old wheel tappers and shunters lot. Im a big believer that anything is funny and fair game, as long as its done skillfully.
I mean, starting a joke with 'My black mate, chalky' *pause. take in audience titter* 'No, seriously, my black mate, chalky.......' is just lame. Im also no fan of massive generalisations either i.e 'Black people, eh? Arent they lazy?'.
But I think if you get the joke right you can genuinely get a laugh out of anyone and anything. Manning and his ilk peddled lazy comedy, playing on tired old stereotypes to a stupid audience who didnt know any better. But they lapped it up, so fair play to them.
I mean, i went with my mate to an Irish club where there was some guy who was, apparently, the King of Irish Blarney. Basically he was from Eire and all of his jokes bar non were about the Northern Irish. One gem was 'Honestly, Ive been to Omagh. Theyre so lazy there, they think a P45 is a handgun'. They were p***ing themselves (and to be fair, so was I. Theres something to be said for a good old christmas cracker gag stand-up).
Anyway, where Im going with this is that JD played to his audience. He told crap jokes to lay-racist conservatives. I dont find that particularly funny. I also dont find 'men, eh? what bastards!' menopausal comedienne humour funny. Nor do I find 'White people, eh? why are they so tightly wound up and have no rhythm' black humour funny.
But, for me, they can say what they like, because, to the right people, anythings funny. I think the moment we are told what we can and cant laugh at will be a very black day. I mean, how many people laughed at the 'Everyone has AIDS!' song in Team America? Thats offensive to people with AIDS, that is.

What im listening to (if youre interested)
I didnt laugh at anything in Team America.
I watched it at a friends house, at the end I questioned why they had chosen to waste a couple of hours of our lives with it ![]()

It's ok now 'cause it's been more than 22.3 years
But yeah, I reckon anything is fair game as long as it's funny. I was listening to Raw and Delirious the other day and Eddie Murphy pretty much insults everyone and anyone, but he never really sounds 'racist' as they all get the same treatment. Same goes for George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Chris Rock, whoever.

When I saw Davidson live, most of his routine was based around his idea of setting up a political party called the "F*ck 'em Party", whose would simply say "F*ck 'Em!!!!" to anyone with problems who basically wasn't British or white.
At regular intervals during his set, Davidson would then shout out the name of a particular group of people, and (virtually) the entire audience would shout "F*ck 'em!!!!"
e.g.:
JD: Bosnians!!
Audience: F*ck 'em!!!! (remember this was in the mid-nineties when much of Central Europe was in a particularly bloody period of unrest.
I don't mind controversial comedy, but ignorant xenophobia is inexcusable.
He was the last act on, so we couldn't have stayed much longer if we wanted to!
I was once working in Ipswich - he was staying at the same hotel (I had a bigger room that he did, mind you, perhaps he was economising even back then ?).
At breakfast he came in - I figured he'd just ignore me, but he said hello and asked if I was alright etc.
Seemed OK to me.
Got some Chris Rock mp3s - the African Americans are rolling in the aisles. If that was a white guy up there they'd be rioting. Which one is the more racist ?
Jim - saw him live years ago. recycled crap from all his DVDīs. lame
Al murray - genuinely funny, and a very nice bloke, but xenophobic (in a comedic way) to the point of embarrasment
Team America - Hilarious film, and a hell of a lot deeper than most people give it credit for. The aids refence? Ever seen īRentī? No? then donīt complai n if you donīt get the gag
