I have often heard the adverts for these trials on the radio, and even seriously considered doing it when i was a student. Looks like it isn't as safe as it first seems.... I bet they will struggle to get more trialists now Confused Anybody here taken part in drugs trials (medical ones, not recreational Winking

No but in my time at G** at Stevenage, they were always touting for blood samples in the morning (last thing I needed was a needle (hate them) & going for a night without beer (vital when staying in digs away from home) for no recompense (especially as a contractor)).

I hope this turns out OK for the persons concerned. Positive thoughts will be sent out tonight by myself.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you’ve noticed.) You don’t normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

LBC just said one poor guy is only 21 years old and his head has swelled to three times its normal size Sad

They get paid 2 grand for these trials.

I have a mate that does these. He was getting about £2000 for a total of about 8 nights in over a 2 month period. He said you get a free medical food and a bed, and £2000 piece of p***. Wonder what his thoughts are now?

All the best,

What a shame this was posted with this heading. I was going to post this with a different heading but I was very busy & didn't have time. No one has stated this but they have talked 'round' it. The drugs were tested on Animals & didn't have this effect. Allowing that the human dose was low & you bet the Animal dose was (especially towards the end high), it would seem there was no adverse effect on the Animals or this wouldn't have got to the human stage, this is more proof that animal testing is not practical & should be stopped.

Mistakes happen, they could have been given a massive overdose? The fact that this is such a rare acurence (sp) shows that animal testing first weeds out the drugs that are going to harm us. Devils advocate mode off.

All the best,

Dr 42%er.

No it isnt in the slightest. There could have been contamination in the manufacture process, mis-administration of the drug by nurses.....any one of a million variables.

Yes, there may have been a side effect that couldnt be caught in animal tests, but would affect humans, but if it hadnt been tested on animals, it may have killed them outright.

Now im not a massive advocate on animal testing, but that statement is just ridiculous. 'I read two paragraphs in a newspaper, now im an expert......'.

So who or what do you test on if you rule out humans and animals?
