Fire at London bus depot closes A40 Sunday January 22, 11:04 AM

LONDON (Reuters) - A fire at a bus station in west London on Sunday destroyed three buses and forced the closure of the busy A40 road into the capital, police said.

Police were called at 9:54 a.m. to the fire at Westbourne Park Bus Garage.

"Three of the buses were on fire and there were several subsequent explosions as a result," a police spokeswoman said.

"The bus garage is situated underneath the A40, which is now closed due to the large plume of smoke from the fire."
Police evacuated local buildings but they believed no one was injured in the blaze.

Witness Anthony Pugh, 32, told Reuters he heard a loud bang at around 10 a.m.

"I was inside my flat and looked out of the window and there was black smoke going into the air.

"There were a couple of buses on fire. There were buses parked close to it, they were catching alight as well."

Scotland Yard said officers were investigating the cause of the blaze.
