Hello,
I have a Japanese PS3 owned since launch and have what appears to be YLOD but my machine aways starts up afterwards.....
My PS3 is on standby...i switch the console on and the green light flashes then the blue then a few seconds later i see the yellow light then it bleeps 3 times and continues to flash red.
But i then press standby and the light goes solid red then press again and it boots up fine playing all day.
This has been happening since i bought it a couple of years ago and only does this maybe 4 times a week and always boots up afterwards.
I planned to sell this console cheap to a mate as i have another UK PS3 in an other room but don't want it dying on him after a couple of days.
I have my JP console connected with a 3amp kettle lead....could this cause the problem?
What do you think?
Cheers.
There is a bios battery inside, could be that needs changing. The ylod wont let it boot at all, I had it on my old PS3. Managed to resurrect it in the oven a couple of times but even that doesn't work any more.
If the battery was faulty would i not lose my time and settings?......nothing is lost after it happens. I don't know anything about electricity and power supplies but i think i had a higher amp in the power supply before this happened......can't be sure it was a couple of years ago now.
Thanks for the reply.
It's the symptoms of a YLOD but it wouldn't boot up afterwards it would just sit flashing or on solid red if you press it again.
Phony will only send you a recon console and it would probably be a UK instead of a Jap one.
Also leans me towards my thoughts that it's not the console overheating causing the YLOD syndrome but a faulty thermal sensor... cos I can't resurrect Ogs old one either now and it shuts down instantly.
If only I knew more about electronics then I do ![]()

I used my electronic skills with my Xbox 360 RLOD by wrapping it in bath towels and binbags to overheat but i don't think the PS3 is ready for this special treatment yet ![]()

There is a way to check the system files on the PS3, maybe worth doing that? Can't remember how to do it though...

Just had a thought, it could be a build up of dust affecting the fans, causing a similar to ylod error.
To run the fans on high speed "clean" mode it's power off at the back, hold down power and eject, turn on the power switch and IIRC it'll bleep then the fans will go nuts.
It runs for a few seconds then shuts off with a flashing red light, power off and back on again and see how that goes.
Oh and remember tokeep holding power and eject until you hear the fans go into high speed mode... trust me you won't miss it ![]()

That high speed fan thing doesn't work on some models (60gb I think) though.

What I meant to say in my odd empty post above, was, whilst I can see how this method of fixing XBoxes work, I really don't think it is a good idea!
