Super Admin

I'm amazed it has taken them this long, if it is genuine.

yeah.

it's a difficult one for me because i feel quite protective over my PS3 and this will
no doubt open up a huge can of worms with piracy.

but... i do like the idea of being able to run games directly off HDD... it's just so
much less hassle (when it works that is!).

Ozmods is well known in the modchip sectors and the kid knows his stuff.
Some of his videos for wiring in modchips are incredible.
TBH, he's not gonna risk his reputation on posting a fake video.

Guess the PS4 will be out sooner than expected or a USB disabling firmware update will be next.

is it possible to do this without removing the option to recharge our 'trollers?
also, wouldn't this affect the eyetoy which will be an integral piece of kit once
"move" is released?

Yes you can still allow charge and disable the usb, but things like play tv woould stop working so it would be very hard for them to implement it.

Unless they made it work specifically with certain USB items.
I don't know all the ins and outs but I'm sure Phony could find a way to do it.

Which is also possible for example our work comps only work with mice, encrypted mem sticks and voda dongles.

However don't they allow usb playback of media they will have to stop that if they brought it into effect.

I'm sure they will find a way to block it. Maybe this USB piracy device uses a certain program or tries to access a certain file on the firmware so if they could detect that being used then maybe they will make the PS3 implode or something. A bit like Microsoft do with their banning waves.

TBH (and I'm gonna preach a little here) I am past piracy of games. I have owned modded consoles. However, I have found through experience that although its great and exciting to own the latest games having paid nothing for them the reality is that you don't have any respect for them. By that I mean because you haven't paid for it you are more likely to dismiss a potentially good game or you don't commit any time to it as you have so many others to play.
Since buying my PS3 I have only bought games I really want. I get my moneys worth from them and enjoy my gaming, I no longer hop from one game to another like some sort of game-whore.
I have known people who have said they mod their consoles but won't let it become like this as they will only pirate games which they would have bought anyway so will therefore still have this "respect", they will just have paid less. The reality is that within 2 weeks they are downloading the most ridiculous games ever just because they can.

Every USB device has a signature which includes device type.. It should be easy to send an update to block unknown device types.. but it would only be a matter of time before the dongle is made to mimic a keyboard or somehing..

I'm not too experienced with PS stuff, but I agree with bezzawezza with the disrespect for games that arises from chipped consoles.. especially kids with R4s on their DSes
