A geforce 8800 with 1.5Gb rab and a Pentium4 processor?
Looking at the required specs it says it requires at least GF 7800 and Dual core, but having a google tells me it possible at low graphics settings?
I'm on a 7300 at the mo which is ok, p***es all over Doom 3 but struggles with resident evil 5. Not too keen on the idea of overclocking either..

what speed P4?
my PC is
amd x2 3800
3gb ram
8800gts 512
runs it fine although I haven't played it much. My processor equates more or less to 1.8hz, although box says Core 2 duo 1.8ghz intel, or x2 2.4ghz
you could try the tool at this site

Well, i don't know about GTA but before i had a psu explosion...... this modest rig..
P4 2.8ghz
7900gtx
1.5gig ram
could play CRYSIS reasonably well.... so i think you have a good shot at getting it running with a 8800

yeh, mine plays Crysis, Far Cry 2, Bioshock (1 not got round to installing 2 yet, missus wanted to play through Bioshock for the 4th time before moving onto 2!), and apparently Sims 3 fine ![]()
I wouldn't get your hopes up... GTA4 is pretty notorious for being extremely demanding on the PC. Even with the details turned way down it will probably be a slideshow.
I can play Crysis on full details no problem, but can only just about get away with the lowest settings in GTA4 ![]()

Stantz, your motherboards probably a skt775 ? if you post the model number i'll check & see if it can take a core2duo/quad, could be a reasonably cheap way to give it a huge boost & extend it's workable life, just adding the 8800 gfx will let you play pretty much any game at low to medium settings, the cpu you have will still bottleneck most of the performance, as an example, i got an E5200 from scan for less than £40, thats an older dual core cpu (wolfendale core) but even using 1 core @ 2.5ghz it'll outperform a 3.4ghz P4 (& the E5200 can easily be clocked to 3ghz on the stock cooler)
the rig i built at xmas came in at less than £200 in total.
E5200 cpu
cheap Asus mobo
1.5gig ddr2
8800gt 512meg (try to avoid the 256meg models if poss)
this runs modern warfare 1 on high settings @ 1920x1600 res & crysis on fairly high settings at the same res.
EDIT= also, get yerself a cheap second hand copy of Modern Warfare 1 as we're getting our own server soon
& you can join the MAD Men for a bit of fun ![]()

Belarc scan told me this;
Processor:
3.20 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
16 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
64-bit ready
Hyper-threaded (2 total)
Main circuit Board;
Board: Intel Corporation D915GAG AAC77881-306
Serial Number: ask if req'd
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Intel Corp. AG91510J.15A.0816.2005.0214.1818 02/14/2005
Incidentally, I checked that link, and while it said GTA4 was out of the question, it said the same for Res Evil 5, but I can play that at a modest FPS

unfortunately that board can only support P4 cpu's upto the D single core series
personaly, i think your rig will play the game, but it's coming close to the end of it's usefull life if you want to continue gaming on it.
but if you wanted to upgrade the mobo, you could get a cheap but decent mobo for £30ish, a dual core E5200 cpu (£40 @ scan, good & easy overclocker) & this would make a big difference, chuck another £50 in for a 8800gt/gtx (second hand) & you'll play anything that comes along for the next few years.
your current ram should be fine, as it'll be DDR2, but just check to be sure ![]()
