Xbox 360 playing divx/xvid problems

Does anyone else have problems playing files on the 360?

I've done some research and apparently the files need to be encoded with Dix 5 or higher, but the problems I seem to be getting with burning onto a data dvd (for my flatmate).

Personally I just plug my external hard drive in and they will play, but I've tried the exact same file burnt onto dvd that won't play on the Xbox 360 (and will play on my divx player).

Any help or directions in the way of any sites that may have some guidance?

I don't know what to suggest really because I've never had a problem playing any files on it. I burn as a data disc and play on the machine.

Is it the discs you are using? Are they DVDR+?

Actually you don't. I've been back and forth with my 360 and I've left the wireless adapter elsewhere, but have been watching away at films on my 360 (through my external hard drive) no problems.

I thought when the disc that I had burnt wasn't playing on my mates 360 that he needed another update from Xbox live so we took it out of his room and connected it to the router but made no difference. Confused Confused

Cass, can you play your XBL games whilst "offline" or on non-live accounts, if not then it might be where you've had your machine repaired, something to do with serial numbers I believe, i was reading something about this when i was looking into getting an Elite... Confused

Think it only allows one GT to update one Xbox with this, I had an account which I used for my brothers one to update but it would not let me update another 360 for the media update unless I was connected. It would say update required. Tongue

Is that the time? Damn you Xbox 360!!!!
