Broken 360 advice please.

My 360 has almost given up the ghost. It freezes during play so frequently it's become unplayable. I've got the full system and I've had it since launch day, it's just started to do this. I rang toysrus whom I purchased it from and they told me they had plenty of full systems in stock for sale as a package, although I never mentioned I already had a faulty one I wanted to swap.
I'm bothered that if Toysrus allow me an exchange that they wont let me swap the hard drive with the new one for my old one. I'd hate to lose my saves !
MS told me they would arrange a courier to collect, fix and return my duffer.
Do you think I should try to get it replaced by Toysrus or just leave it to MS who quoted a 7 - 11 day turn-around ? Do you think MS may return me someone elses unit that they have refurbished ?

i'd let M$ do it, that way you will deffo keep your hard drive, i'd be amazed if toy's'r'us let you swap the hard disc over, they are REALY anal about that kind of thing Sad

I dunno, I know some-one had a faulty one, the courier took away the whole unit, and in return he got a refurbished one. He could it was refurbished because teh hard drive had save on it and teh previous owners Live account!

Our 360 was taken away by MS because it broke after 2 days and they insisted on having the hadr drive and returning a replacement of the console and hard drive.

If you're going to return it to MS to be repaired/replaced i can't recommend enough getting a memory card and transferring your game saves and profile onto it. We didn't have a memory card and lost a lot of stuff (even after 2 days). As soona s we got our replacement we bought a mem card and have been backing up game saves once a week just to be safe. I know it shouldn't be like that but i get paranoid.

Harmless

i just had mine replaced by ms after two weeks, the one they sent me was worse than the first one, it cant even generate decent graphics, and the replacement is a used on, i just called ms up and told them i want a new one not a second hand faulty console.

ms are taking the p'~~~ now, they really are, but once they have your money, its too late.
the console never was ready for release and it should not have been so.

ms do not understand gamers, we have long memories and any future consoles developed by ms will be avoided like the plague.

there is a forum dedicated to faulty 360's and wathchdog have agreed to look in to this above average breakdown.

Been shafted by MS too ! The replacement sent wasn't my repaired one. It's serial # is different, all the protective film pieces are removed it is scratched, dirty, and lo and behold it doesn't work It still has the three red rings. Disgraceful service.

this is becoming disgracefull Sad tbh i would have expected better from M$ they should know that for every 1 customer they treat like this another 10 will hear about it & avoid them Confused i know they screwed the pooch with the launch but this is beyond belief from such a Huge company, sending out second hand units is ridiculous & if i where you i'd seriously consider involving trading standards.

EDIT= & as for buying memory cards,,,,,,, one of the main points of a hard disc system is so you DON'T need cards,,, another £20 + wasted Angry

Took it back to Toysrus today. They said they wouldn't change it, has to be done by MS blah blah. I said f.u. you change it ! They insisted on testing it. Agreed to exchange, phew. Now more s***, wouldn't let me keep my remote control limited edition, I said fine but I'll complain to MS in writing. Do you think they will send me a remote control ?

i'd have told them either swap it "like for like" or gimme a refund, followed by my next call is to trading standards.

hopefully M$ will offer some kind of recompense to early adopters, they did with the original x-box.
