Wow I thought Bruce Cambpell did awesome commentary tracks, but he has nothing on the insight that Arnie gives to a movie.

Warning, contains spoilers...

I'd tried to blank this from my memory. Possibly the worst commentary track ever.

Im confused, does Arnie actually think hes Quaid? maybe those brain butchers at recall really did implant a fake memory into his head....

You know what, I keep laughing after listening to that, I'm gonna dig out my copy of Total Recall later (R1 Mars LE tin set) and see if that commentary is on there, and listen to it just for the crack!

Any bets on how far I get?

The commentary is on there. It was the first release to feature it and I bought it partially for that reason. Thank Christ it had better audio/video.

I started listening - yes it's the genuine article. I got about 30-40 mins in and found I had better things to do. It's basically Arnie chatting with the director, Paul Verhoeven (who doesn't feature in the above clip but is equally banal). I'll probably listen to a bit more another time.

One thing I did learn was that prior to Verhoeven picking the project up, it was in the hands of Dino De Laurentis, and at that time, Quaid was an accountant, due to be played by Jeff Bridges! But when Verhoeven took it over, and signed up Arnie, they knew the Governator was never meant to play an accountant, so he became a construction worker, to suit the physique. Prior to Bridges, I think they said Dustin Hoffman was going to play the part. The script was rewritten so many times, and different directors kept picking it up, which was why the lead actor changed a few times...

But that WAS the only thing I learned, and I dare say most of you knew it already anyway.

I didn't! I feel edumacated and no longer in need of listening to the commentary track myself. Winking

But you do need to finish it off, so we don't have to.

I sat through it in its entirety, once. If you listen to the end they discuss something that may make you look at the film in an entirely different light, unless you're a Philip Dick fan in which case you probably guessed it anyway.
