Harry Potter releases to be deleted at the end of December.

Warner Bros have gone all Disney with the franchise!

The final film, and the 8-disc boxsets will be available from the 2nd of December.

Then on the 29th of December all physical HP media will be deleted. You won't be able to buy it anymore.

Supposedly that's to keep fan appetites for the series whetted, so that if they release the films once every ten years for a couple of months, they'll still be able to rake it in.

I dunno about you, but I was thinking about getting the movies in a few months, when they were on sale, just one cheap boxset for a few notes. If this is the strategy, they can keep the films. I don't need them that badly.

Bill Hunt's understanding over at the Bits is that WB are putting the current discs on moratorium until later in 2012 when the movies will be re-released in deluxe boxsets with new extras and stuff.  My money's on them doing a 3D Bluray set of all eight movies, a flat Bluray set with expanded extras (deleted scenes and the like) and maybe a fairly bare bones DVD set for the Luddites among us.

Warner Home Video plans to release a comprehensive Harry Potter film collection, with even more extras and collectible premiums in 2012. More details about the collection will be available at a later date." - WB

Obviously, I've got them all on DVD, and I'll get 7.2 when it's release, but to be honest, I haven't watched the earlier films in years. 1 & 2 slowly revealed them to be cinematic dross. Part 3 was an exercise in style over content, punctuated with the director's obsession with threesomes. Part 4 is probably the one with the most replay value for me, as the tournament is incredibly entertaining. Part 5 was too heavily abridged from the source material to be fulfilling, and the less said about the complete abortion that was HBP the better. I'll only watch 7.1 now only if immediately followed by 7.2

That said, i'll keep them for Luke & Max, but I doubt I'll dip with any kind of enthusiasm. I'd prefer the books

Pretty annoyed at all this. Cannot for the life of me get the 2 disc edition of Deathly Hallows part 1 anywhere. If you want the film, you currently have to pay through the nose for a scratched up second hand copy on Fleabay, or pay top dollar for a single disc copy.

Great marketing idea so close to Xmas. Well done Warners.

Our Tescos have loads. As for the marketing, you just know enterprising money-hounds are buying up all the copies and suddenly there'll be craploads on ebay come january

I remember with PotC2, I missed out on the double ltd edition DVD, but sooner or later it started to pop up cheap again at supermarkets and ebay.

Steady you buffs, I'm led to believe that the moratorium only applies to the US.
