Ah happy memories! Love the story about Andre... and I'm sure Robin Wright fancies Cary Elwes.

Is this the book of the film? Or was the film the film from the book?

Sadly, Andre was a physical wreck at this stage, as the acromegaly (gigantism) that made him famous had turned on him.
There's a funny story about him having surgery on his back - in England, as it happens - at this time. Andre was a legitimate 6ft 9in tall, and weighed well over 500lbs, so a new table had to be constructed so that doctors could perform the surgery. Also, considering that he was one of the largest men in the world, the anesthesiologist had no idea how to sedate him. The only thing he could come up with to try to measure how much anaesthesia was required was to ask Andre how much alcohol it would take to make him pass out. Reputedly, Andre said, "I can get a buzz off two quarts", and the doctors took it from there.
Incidentally, the year after the surgery, Andre had the biggest match in wrestling history when 78,000 people turned up at the Silverdome in Detroit to watch Andre wrestle Hulk Hogan. An incredible ten percent of American homes that had access to pay-per-view technology ordered the show.

The book is interesting, it's hard to read in places, 'cos it mixes "fact" with fiction, and talks about making the film in between the story, and how the film got made from the book, but v enjoyable non the less.

'Princess Bride' remake? 'I hope I'm dead before that happens,' says Mandy Patinkin. But how about a Miracle Max and Valerie movie?
