The Day the Earth Stood Still - Remake

Watched this last night all I can say is utter pish

Usual green messages about us killing the earth, nothing new there

No GORT rampage I was hoping for well if you call

SPOILER:
him turning into a swarm of metalic microscopic eating flies

Total dull

The 1951 original is way superior

When I first hear about this remake, I'd assumed Reeves was playing GORT. Tongue

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you’ve noticed.) You don’t normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

When fishermen catch dolphin-friendly tuna, how do they know which tuna are being friendly to dolphins?

I don't think it's any worse than the original, but it's not a great film.

Think its just safer to say if a film stars Keanu Reeves - avoid it!

The Matrix? One of the defining films of the nineties (or any other decade for that matter). The Bill and Ted films were also fun, as was Speed. He's not totally s***.

Fairplay - Bill & Ted, Speed quite a few years ago - and the Matrix kind of lost me after the 1st one Confused so I should rephrase my comment...
"say if a NEW film stars Keanu Reeves - avoid it!" Winking

Of course it wasnt a patch on the original but for what it was it wasnt the worst movie iv ever seen, Acting was on the whole ok, SFX were pretty good, I liked the arc idea and the usual human/american "blow them to f***" attitude which i would think would be exactly what we would do and I liked the nano technology sweep the planet clean so watchable if unmemorable for me Happy

Liked it a lot, actually. I've never seen the original so was watching it with fresh eyes, as it were. Keanu was as wooden as the role commanded, and Jaden was as annoying as I'd expect him to be. mbilko's comment about 'blow them to beep' is pretty much spot on, an alien comes to visit earth to warn us agaisnt hostility is met with hostility...

I've always been on the opinion that should an alien civilisation ever make contact with us they would be vastly superior to us in every aspect. Technologically, mentally and physchologically. To such a point that any attempt to usurp them through physical means would be laughably inadequate (they've travelled millions of light years through uninhabitable space, our puny object-led weapons are but the buzzing of flies).

ahem. back to the movie. Watchable, and with a message that, sadly, hasn't changed in over 50 years
