Scary Films for a 7 year old

My 7 year old daughter is well into the swing of the halloween season and she's asking for some scary movies to watch. Does anyone have any recommendations for "scary films" suitable for a 7 year old?.

She's seen Van Helsing and that was too tame for her but she thouroughly enjoyed Monster Squad.

Regards
Bryan

Dunno what scares seven year olds nowadays. Aren't they all desensitised and stuff? When I was a kid I was frightened by the bloke in the hazard suit coming through the window in E.T. FFS! Krull has some scary moments, and I guess The Goonies as well. My Mrs is still scared of Labyrinth to this day, although that's admittedly got more to do with Bowie than the puppets... The Dark Crystal, The Neverending Story, The Black Hole (Maximilian is pretty hardcore), Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Troll, The Witches, Beetlejuice. Obviously my frame of reference is 80s kids movies Winking

The Spiderwick Chronicles was pretty scary, I thought (as well as being a bloody great film!)

Return to Oz: Dorothy gets sent to a mental institution but escapes before she can get electric shock therapy to make her forget about Oz, she ends up back in Oz then but it's all f***ed up. My absolute favourite film as a kid, first saw it when I was about 6, and it has LOTS of frightening bits.

Totally agree with Gremlins and The Witches.

Competent

I let my daughter (who was 8 at the time) watch gremlins and she loved it - although it is a certificate 15!!!!
She also liked watching Jaws but wanted to skip the "boring bits" without the shark Shocked

She wants to be scared? I was going to suggest Arachnophobia (PG) until I saw your comment about Van Helsing!

Still, I really think at that age she should be laughing - maybe Eight Legged Freaks (12)?

Watched it today with my 9 year old, and he loved it, but there were a few hair-raising moments between the laughs!

Eight Legged Freaks is a great ideaGrinning. Terrified me lol. She's into Vampires a bit so i'm gonna rewatch Blood - The Last Vampire and see if that would be any good for her.
