George Lucas v Joss Whedon

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you’ve noticed.) You don’t normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

Haha, was probably held at a Firefly convention Grinning

I love Firefly and Serenity and it was a shame it all got cut short. But it ain't no Star Wars.

Just don't underestimate browncoats, I know for a fact some of them spend literally hours voting on polls on the internet, deleting their cookies each time. They rigged Film 2005 to get Serenity No. 1 film of the year, haha.

That's kind of like when there was a poll on here every few days... I suggested one for the best film music composer and mistakenly included Hans Zimmer... cue billions of Media Ventures zealots flooding the site with votes for him.

Star Trek: First Contact is better than Serenity any day.

If you asked SFX readers their favourite colour, the answer would be Serenity.

Or maybe most people simply don't know their Ennio Morricone from their ice-cream cone. Hans Zimmer is the Carol Vorderman of the film score world, after all.

I've never actually seen a Star Trek film Confused

Strangely I thought Firefly was okay, but thought Serenity was awesome and really like the Star Wars films (even the prequels which don't seem to have much love) so maybe I should check some of them out.

Edit- Infact I even liked The Chronicles of Riddick which everyone seemed to think was a big pile of s***.

Serenity is good fun, but there's no way it tops Star Wars. The Firefly fanboys (Browncoats....? hehehehe) are the very definition of geeks. The programme finished a loooong time ago. Get on with your lives.

I thought the series was very good, and that the film was okay. Star Wars kicks it arse in every concievable way. I'd also hardly class an SFX poll as definitive as the magazine only seems to be made for either Dr. Who or Firefly fans.

These polls are not a true indication. It's the same as the regular polls you find in the likes of 'Q' and 'Mojo' magazines. They always ask you to name your top albums of all time and once in a while the like's of Oasis and Radiohead albums always knock The Beatles from the No.1 spot only to drop way down again in the next year or so with the Beatles regaining top spot!! Serenity better than Star Wars? Pah!

It is sad that the Firefly geeks are so determined. It's because the show is lost and forgotten to many, and I know a lot of people who like Serenity but haven't even heard of Firefly. It's like a man with a small willy buys a big car, he is over-compensating, haha.

And Serenity, while not a patch on Star Wars, is better than First Contact Winking

The best Trek films to start with is Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock (even though it's crap it's a bridge between II and IV), Star Trek IV: Voyage Home, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Star Trek: First Contact, Insurection, and Nemesis.

By the way Firefly is basically what the Star Wars prequels should of been.
