My VHS copy went on eBay a few months back and got around a tenner for it.

Surprised there are people out there still using those big black plastic bricks.

It's definitely not in HMV - there are 3 films out.
Child's Play 2, 3 and Bride of Chucky.

Just ordered my first region 1 DVD !
Worked out to be £4.27 with free delivery from the States from dvdsoon.com

I'm just hoping my region unlock code on my DVD player actually worked

Ok this is the quick 'n' dirty answer...as I understand it Happy

Most films shot in a 'widescreen' type format i.e. wide & thin.
Most TVs used to be fairly square-ish.
So to fit the whole width on screen meant showing the film with big black bars top & bottom and a small thin picture - like looking through a lettbox at the film!
So to get around this, the film is transferred using a square-ish part of the middle of the film - this cuts off both edges of the film, but is OK when the action is centre-screen. If something is happening at the edges, the 'square' (your view) is panned to the left or right - like adjusting a monitor display! Sometimes, you'll only see, say, the actor on the right talking to the left (cause the actor on the left has been cut off).

Most bods avoid Pan & Scan (or Scam as it's known), because you lose about 1/3rd of the original film and the pan movements were not what the director intended.

1.33:1 is an aspect ratio (AR) - the ratio of the width of the screen to the height - in this case an old TV (not widescreen)ratio of 4:3. Common widescreen ratio is 16:9 or 1.77:1 and films can come in a variety of widescreen type ratios including letterbox and 2.35:1 etc.

Lots more info in the site FAQ.

(Don't shoot the messenger, guys - I know it's not perfect, but it's a start....)

There is no widescreen version out of Child's Play on Region 1 or 2 which was originally filmed in 1.85 : 1.

There is however a widescreen DVD of Child's Play which is on region 4, and has the above mentioned ratio, and I have confirmed the aspect ratio with quite a few Region 4 websites just to be sure.

Happy hunting Happy
