Just ordered my first Superbit dvd (Snatch). Is the difference in quality really as noticable as it's made out to be? Ta y'all Happy

I found it was far inferior than the "standard" version. This was "Lawrence of Arabia". I shan't bother buying anymore.

Cheers for that, maybe I'll cancel my order and get the ordinary one cheaper. Confused

I'd agree - I bought Jet Li's The One Superbit Edition and I really can't tell the difference to any of my other disks.....

I think the enhanced bit rate of Superbit discs only really shows on a large screen. But you do get DTS as well as DD aswell. On R1 ,one batch of Superbit releases were issued with extras on a second disc-this is how it should be always. One magazine did a comparison of some Superbit releases around the time of Moulin Rouge's release, and found the average bit rate on MR was the same as the Superbit versions. So,all in all-not really worth paying again.Having said that, when PLAY reduced them to £9.99 I couldn't resist Vertical Limit

Mostly Harmless

Apparently,,unless you have one of those Bloody Awful Large Plasma Screen TV's,,you wont notice any real difference,,,I have heard they give a slightly sharper image on a Plasma!,,,and lets face it,,,Plasma TV needs all the Help it can get!

Frankly, I only notice the difference when the average bitrate drops down to below 4MBits/second. I'd go as far to say that higher bitrates can make a film look worse(if the print isn't tidied up a lot) as all the defects are shown in greater detail.

Interesting viewpoint. I've never really looked at it that way before.

To be frank, once I sit down and get into the film, if the picture is half decent it will be fine for me. A couple of grains on the skyline aren't going to register in my brain if the film is any good.

So far the only Superbit title I've invested in has been Vertical Limit (stop that sn*****ing in the back) and IMHO there IS a noticeable improvement in the overall picture quality especially when viewed via component video through my Panny 300 projector on to an 8 foot screen. If you're watching it on a 28 or 32 inch t.v. then the increase is bitrate is probably less noticeable...
