converting AVI files

I have several films on my hard drive stored as .avi files .I s there a free or inexpensive program that will enable me to convert these to a format that i can burn them onto cds and watch on my dvd player?

If the films are already split into 2 parts,I think nero will do the job for you.

Audiodub and TempEng, available from the links advised above ie VCD help. Also gives you a step by step process on how to make VCD's
